    Let’s Talk Elopements

01.

What is an elopement?

An elopement is an intentional, intimate wedding experience that focuses on your love story rather than the size of your guest list. While elopements were once associated with secretly running away to get married, today’s elopements are thoughtfully planned celebrations that allow couples to exchange vows in breathtaking locations surrounded by nature. Whether you dream of an Oregon Coast elopement, a mountaintop ceremony, or exchanging vows beneath towering evergreens, an elopement gives you the freedom to create a wedding day that is authentic, meaningful, and uniquely yours.

02.

How do we plan an elopement in Oregon or Washington?

Planning an Oregon or Washington elopement doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We begin with a short questionnaire to learn about your relationship, your vision, and what matters most to you. From there, we’ll schedule a planning call to discuss locations, timelines, permits, vendors, and every detail needed to create a stress-free and unforgettable Pacific Northwest elopement experience.

03.

Can you help us choose an elopement location?

Absolutely! Choosing the perfect location is one of our favorite parts of the planning process. Whether you’re dreaming of the Oregon Coast, a secluded forest, a mountain overlook, or a hidden waterfall, we’ll recommend locations that fit your vision. We often scout locations in advance so you can feel confident you’ve found the perfect place to say “I do.”

04.

How far in advance should we book our elopement?

We’ve successfully planned beautiful elopements with as little as two weeks’ notice. However, we recommend booking several months in advance whenever possible. This provides plenty of time to secure permits (if needed), choose the ideal location, plan your timeline, and create a relaxed, meaningful wedding day without feeling rushed.

    You Might Be Wondering…

05.

What happens if it rains?

Rain is part of the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and we’re always prepared for it. We provide clear umbrellas that photograph beautifully and embrace the moody skies that make Oregon and Washington so iconic. If weather conditions become unsafe, we’ll do everything we can to adjust your timeline or location to ensure your elopement is everything you’ve dreamed of.

06.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes! We love when couples include their dogs in their elopement because they’re part of the family too. As long as your chosen location allows pets, your four-legged companion is welcome to join your ceremony and photos. We’re happy to recommend dog-friendly elopement locations throughout Oregon and Washington.

07.

How many guests can we invite?

The number of guests depends on your chosen location and any local regulations. We generally recommend keeping your guest list to 15 people or fewer to preserve the intimate, personal experience that makes an elopement so special. Smaller gatherings also provide greater flexibility when choosing scenic locations throughout the Pacific Northwest.

08.

Do we need a permit for our ceremony?

It depends on where you’re getting married. Many intimate elopements on the Oregon Coast and in Oregon State Parks do not require a permit, especially when there are only a few people and no large ceremony setup. However, some locations require a Special Use Permit for weddings, commercial photography, or larger groups. Washington State Parks typically have stricter permitting requirements, and most elopements are considered special activities that require a permit. Washington recommends applying at least 60 days in advance. As part of our planning process, we’ll help determine whether a permit is needed and guide you through the process so you can focus on enjoying your wedding day.

    Let’s Talk Vows

09.

Do you offer both Christian and non-religious wedding ceremonies?

We offer Christian, spiritual, non-denominational, and secular ceremonies. Whether you would like scripture and prayer included or prefer a completely customized ceremony, we’ll create an experience that reflects your beliefs, values, and relationship.

10.

Can you officiate an elopement anywhere in Oregon or Washington?

We travel throughout Oregon and Washington to officiate elopements and intimate weddings at beaches, waterfalls, forests, mountains, parks, Airbnb properties, and other scenic locations. We’re happy to help you choose the perfect setting.

11.

Can you help us write our ceremony and vows?

Yes. We provide guidance on ceremony wording, vow structure, readings, and special traditions. Whether you want something short and simple or deeply personal, we’ll help create a ceremony that feels authentic to you.

12.

Do you offer officiant services without photography?

Yes! While we offer all-inclusive elopement packages that combine photography and officiant services, you can also book officiant services as a standalone option if you already have a photographer or only need someone to perform your ceremony.

13.

How long does it take to receive our photos?

Your fully edited online gallery is typically delivered within 2–4 weeks, depending on the size of your session or elopement.

14.

What types of photography sessions do you offer?

We specialize in elopement photography, surprise proposals, engagement sessions, couples photography and mini sessions throughout Oregon and Washington.

15.

What should we wear for our session?

We recommend neutral, earthy tones and comfortable clothing that complements the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. After booking, we can provide outfit tips and planning guidance to help you look and feel your best.

16.

Do you provide RAW (unedited) photos?

No. We do not deliver RAW image files. RAW photos are unfinished files that require professional editing to achieve the final look and quality you see in our portfolio. Every image you receive is carefully hand-edited for color, lighting, composition, and consistency, ensuring your gallery reflects the artistic style and experience you chose Timber and Tide Elopement for.

    Find Your Perfect Fit

17.

How do we know which elopement package is right for us?

The best package depends on your vision, timeline, and how much of your day you’d like documented. Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony or an all-day adventure, we’ll help you choose the package that best fits your plans and budget.

18.

Can we schedule a consultation or phone call before booking?

We want to make sure your elopement experience is the perfect fit for your vision. Before scheduling a consultation call, we provide a detailed questionnaire to learn more about your love story, style, location ideas, ceremony preferences, and overall dream day. After reviewing your responses, we’ll connect with you to discuss your plans, answer questions, and help you choose the best Pacific Northwest elopement package for your celebration.

19.

Are travel fees included in your packages?

Travel within our standard service area is included. For locations farther away or destination elopements, we’ll provide a clear custom travel quote before booking so there are no surprises.

20.

What if we don’t know our timeline yet?

That’s completely normal! Many couples book before they’ve finalized the details. We’ll help you create a personalized timeline that maximizes your photography experience and keeps your day relaxed and stress-free.

    Secret’s Safe With Us

21.

How do you help plan a surprise proposal?

We specialize in creating unforgettable Pacific Northwest surprise proposals. We’ll work with you to plan the perfect location, timing, and details to make the moment feel natural and authentic. From scouting scenic spots to coordinating the big surprise, we’ll help ensure your proposal is beautifully captured.

22.

What happens after the proposal?

After the big “yes,” we continue capturing the excitement with a couples portrait session so you can celebrate the moment together. Many couples use this time for engagement photos, candid moments, and beautiful memories from the day they started their next chapter.

23.

How do we pick the right proposal location?

The best place to start is by thinking about what you love to do together as a couple. Is it hiking, exploring the coast, enjoying a favorite view, wine tasting, camping, or simply spending quiet time outdoors? Your story is what makes the location meaningful. From there, we’ll help you find a beautiful Pacific Northwest location that fits your relationship and allows us to capture a proposal that feels authentic, personal, and unforgettable.

24.

Can you help coordinate family or friends who want to be part of the surprise proposal?

Absolutely! We can help coordinate the details to make sure your family or friends are nearby without giving away the surprise. From choosing the best hiding spot and timing their arrival to planning the perfect reveal after the proposal, we’ll help create a seamless experience that captures the excitement, emotions, and unforgettable moments with the people you love.

    Just a Mini Adventure

We share limited-time photography sessions in stunning Pacific Northwest locations throughout Oregon and Washington, including beaches, forests, waterfalls, and scenic outdoor settings.

26.

Can I suggest a location for a mini session?

Absolutely! We love discovering new places throughout the Pacific Northwest and are always open to location suggestions. Whether you have a favorite beach, forest, viewpoint, or hidden gem that has special meaning to you, we’d love to hear your ideas. Together, we can find a beautiful setting that helps tell your story and creates unforgettable images.

27.

Can we bring additional friends or family to our mini session?

Mini sessions are designed to focus on you as a couple and capturing your connection, love, and story together. To keep the experience relaxed and ensure we have enough time to create meaningful images, we recommend keeping sessions limited to the couple. If you’re looking for family portraits or a larger group session, we’d be happy to discuss a custom photography option that better fits your needs.

28.

How many photos will we receive from our mini session?

You can expect to receive approximately 10–20 professionally edited images from your mini session. The final number may vary depending on the location, session flow, and the moments we capture. We carefully curate each gallery to include the most meaningful, authentic images that tell your story and reflect the beauty of your Pacific Northwest experience.
